Miranda Chkhetiani - Winemaker

Author: Nini Usenashvili

"The stages of wine creation are so closely linked that starting from pruning the vines in the spring, ending with pouring into the glass, the entire process is particularly interesting." For Miranda, winemaking is not merely a profession but a way of life. He derives immense pleasure from working in the vineyard and crafting wine. His creations are infused not only with rich flavors and aromas but also with creative energy and love. "Along with technique, emotions also play a big role. I've heard that whatever character you approach the process with, that's the character of the wine."

Miranda Chkhetiani resides in the village of Tvishi in Lechkhumi, where he proudly upholds a cherished family tradition. His grandfather, a renowned agronomist in the region and across Georgia, had a profound love for the vines, a passion he passed on to his grandson. From a young age, Miranda worked in the vineyard with his father, tending to the vines his grandfather had nurtured.

In 2017, Miranda bottled his first 60 bottles of wine with friends. This was not merely a beverage but a manifestation of his creativity and a dream realized. The wine was warmly received, igniting Miranda's desire to start his own business. Since 2018, he has worked independently, producing 1,500 bottles of wine annually. Remarkably, the entire 2022 harvest was sold to the United States.

Miranda's wine brand, "Miranda Wine," is crafted from the unique Lechkhumi Tsolikouri. Although Tsolikouri is typically an Imereti variety, grapes grown in the distinct soil and climatic conditions of Lechkhumi develop special aromas and properties. Miranda adheres to traditional methods, fermenting the wine in qvevri without additives. This process imparts a distinctive acidity, character, and natural essence to his products. Each vintage is different and unique, shaped by the harmonious interplay of soil, climate, and the winemaker's artistry.

Miranda actively participates in wine festivals, recognizing their importance for start-ups and small entrepreneurs. "For start-ups and small entrepreneurs, these festivals are crucial so that the wider public can get to know you. You may have a very good product, but if we don't have advertising and awareness, we will still get lost somewhere because we are small entrepreneurs."

In the vineyard and beyond, Miranda Chkhetiani's journey is a testament to the enduring legacy of tradition, the passion of creation, and the timeless allure of wine.
